Pathways to Emergency and Academy Career Experiences (PEACE) Program

The City of Minneapolis’ PEACE program gives Minneapolis students the opportunity  to explore careers in Fire, Police, Emergency Services, and Legal services. Students who participate will team with a trained mentor and professional in one of the fields they are interested in who they will meet with monthly. Students will participate in monthly events with their peers for reflection, team building, and to develop resume building skills, how to network, self care, and career exploration. Minneapolis Public School students will also work with a Check and Connect Monitor at their school who will help ensure success during the program and make sure they are on track for graduation. Students will get hands on experience, receive a paid internship over the summer, and make personal connections with professionals in their career field of interest.


  • Must be between the ages of 16-21 years old and within two years of graduation.
  • Must be a resident of Minneapolis and live within certain designated neighborhoods (see map).
  • Must be enrolled in a public or alternative high school at time of entrance into the program.


  • Get hands on experience in a field that you are interested in pursuing.
  • Build your professional network that will help you in the future.
  • Meet other students who are interested in the same career field.
  • Gain new skills through monthly team and mentor events.
  • Benefit from Check & Connect support at school
  • Receive a paid summer internship within the career field of your choice

Time Commitment 

  • Attend team meetings and mentor events twice a month
  • Participate in a part time paid summer internship. This internship will be flexible other work/school commitments and will begin at the end of June.
  • Participate in a hands on ‘mini academy’ workshop which will be a total of 12 hours
